Indigenous Conflict Resolution

Indigenous Conflict Resolution

An Overview

LANCCI works with communities to revitalise Indigenous conflict resolution systems that have long governed relations between pastoral communities. We recognise that customary peacebuilding mechanisms — including elder-led dialogues, community assemblies, and traditional sanctions — remain deeply relevant and effective in resolving disputes and restoring social cohesion.

Field Activities

01. Peacebuilding Through Customary Dialogue

LANCCI facilitates customary peacebuilding dialogues across pastoral communities, training community mediators in Indigenous conflict resolution and convening inter-community peace forums. The work documents traditional laws governing resource conflicts and advocates for formal recognition of Indigenous dispute resolution systems.
